The Communications Committee provides mechanisms for communicating the work of the North Carolina Local Food Council (NCLFC), sharing the stories of local food councils and connecting local food councils across the state.
The Communications Committee helps promote the value of local food, assists the internal committees of NCLFC with their messaging needs and provides platforms to share local food council work and success stories.
A primary tool used by the committee is the NCLFC website. After years of having an informational page generously hosted for the council by the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS), in 2018 the Council began to develop its own comprehensive website. This website will become a primary means for sharing the work of the Council with the public, local food councils, governmental leaders, food producers and other interested stakeholders. Features will include links to member organizations, original research, an image library and publications and links to events of interest to stakeholders. To build awareness of the connection between local foods and individuals, the Committee hopes to promote the work of individual local food champions by prominently featuring their stories.
Other work of the Communications Committee includes the development of educational materials for NCLFC to be used for conferences and presentations. Additional tools will be explored as capacity permits.
